January update
Physical Education
During the month of January we will be looking at skills and lead-up games that will introduce students to the basics of Volleyball. This week we worked on being in the ready position and tracking a ball in the air.
Once the outdoor skating rink is ready, the students will be skating once a week. More information will be sent home about our skating program once the rink is ready.
We continue to be outside 2-3 mornings a week. Please send your child to school dressed to be able to participate outside for 40 minute periods. Students should have; snow pants, hat, waterproof mitts, neckwarmer and an extra pair of mitts and socks in their bag.

November update
Physical Education
Over the past two months, we have been increasing our warm-up running time. We have been talking about our stamina and have aimed to have each student be able to run for 1.5 minutes without stopping. This week we have increased the time to 2 minutes, and will work towards by 2.5 minutes at the end of the month. We will continue to work on sending and receiving objects. We have been throwing, catching, bouncing and working on retaining objects when caught. The students are learning to apply these skills while playing a variety of games.
Health
This month we will begin the topic of Healthy Eating. The students will use Canada’s Food Guide to identify food and beverage choices that contribute to healthy eating patterns and demonstrate an understanding of how to make healthy food choices for meals and snacks.
Dance
The students will begin exploring the element of Body (ex. body awareness, body zones, shapes, locomotor movements, non-locomotor movements and body bases). We will be doing some Hiphop and Disco dances to help learn about this element of dance.

October update
Physical Education
Throughout the month of October we will be focusing on sending and receiving different objects. This week we focused on how to throw a ball at a target (ex. eyes on target, knees bent, follow-through, etc.). This month each student will be given the opportunity to lead the warm-up stretches for the class. We have been talking about how to safely warm-up and stretch our muscles to lessen the risk of injury during physical activity.
Health
As we continue to learn about the topic of Mental Health Literacy this month, the students will learn about how a person’s body and brain respond to challenging or uncomfortable situations (e.g., they may feel tired, easily overwhelmed, confused, they may get a headache or feel hot), and describe what they can do to feel better at those times.
Dance
The students will be using what they have learned about the element of "space" (levels, pathways, directions and size of movement) to create their own short dances to perform for the class. We will be learning a couple of line dances which focus on change of direction.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
